Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), a Nobel prize-winning technology, is widely recognized as one of the most important scientific developments of our generation. PCR allows minute amounts of genetic material to be allowed to be amplified into billions of copies in just a few hours, facilitating detection of the DNA or RNA of pathogenic organisms even before antibodies to these organisms are formed. PCR's exquisite sensitivity makes it possible to diagnose infectious agents earlier and to monitor disease progression and response to therapy.

The Roche Molecular Diagnostics product portfolio includes: in vitro diagnostic kits, Amplicor® and kits for screening blood, AmpliScreenT. Roche Molecular Diagnostics also offers automated platforms that enable the full automation of the PCR process - for sample preparation, AmpliprepTM, for amplification, detection, and calculation of results, Cobas AmplicorTM and for Real-time kinetic PCR, Cobas TaqmanT 48 Analyzer. The in vitro assays are available in micro well plate format Amplicor® for manual testing and in automated format Cobas AmplicorT allowing improved laboratory productivity.

Roche Molecular Diagnostics is committed to help the medical fraternity to meet their laboratory demands and improve patient outcomes by developing PCR into a standardized, routine diagnostic tool and to make automated infectious disease testing using PCR technology simple and accessible to the clinical laboratory. Amplicor PCR tests give doctors the information to manage their patients with confidence.
